The Book Praise Tribute The Author

About the Author

"As an airline pilot, the tragedy of 9/11 was gut-wrenchingly personal. When I finished reading the 9/11 Commission's findings, I was much better informed, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the story was incomplete, and I felt compelled to dig deeper. So I began a journey to meet with the people behind the headlines: those who found themselves on the front lines that day in the cockpits of the commercial airliners and jet fighters, and in the control towers and military battle cabs. I went to their homes and their offices. I met their families. I listened intently, and I discovered that the Commission's report did not even begin to tell us the stories of heroism, confusion, anger, bravery, and sacrifice of that day. I was moved, comforted, astounded, and proud, and I felt as though I had somehow touched history. I hope that in reading this book, you will feel the same."

"I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the fallen, and my highest praise to those who did what they were trained to do that day."
